The Musselshell River flows past about a quarter mile south of the little town of Lavina and is bridged by a concrete girder bridge on Highway 3.

As do a great many bridges, this one also carries a benchmark disc, this one being Vertical Control Mark D 537. It is monumented in the top of the curb beside the corner post at the northwest corner of the bridge. Today it is less than a foot above road level, a bit less than indicated when it was monumented in 1980.

0.6 KM (0.35 MI) SOUTH ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 3 FROM THE POST OFFICE IN LAVINA, AT A BRIDGE CROSSING THE MUSSELSHELL RIVER, IN THE NORTHWEST BRIDGE ABUTMENT AND WALKWAY, 4.6 METERS (15.2 FT) WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY AND 0.4 METER (1.3 FT) SOUTH OF THE NORTHWEST END OF THE BRIDGE. THE MARK IS 0.3 M ABOVE THE HIGHWAY.
