"Wenige Erfindungen der Menschheit sind pure Idee (z. B. das Rad oder die Mathematik), die meisten sind aus Vorbildern der Natur oder des Umfeldes entstanden.
Aus diesen Erfindungen haben sich in ihrer Weiterentwicklung Systeme zur praktischen Anwendung entwickelt. Zu diesen Systen gehört auch das Sitzmöbel Stuhl.
Das ursprünglichste aller von Menschen erfundene System ist die Körpersprache, die der Anfang von Kommunikation und kulturbedingter Sprachentwicklung ist.
Hier bei diesem Kunstobjekt "Annäherung" vereinen sich alle drei Systeme zu einer gemeinsamen Ausdrucksform, die sich in ihrer Verbindung zeigt. Ein Stuhl als erstes System, gebaut aus Stahl in DIN (Deutsche Industrie Norm), hier Vierkantrohre und Bleche. Das zweite System, das Stuhlobjekt mit verlängerten Beinen, um das dritte System sichtbar werden zu lassen, die menschliche Körpersprache.
Dies alles in einem Zusammenspiel von Linien und Flächen, welche einen Raum besetzen, der sich "Annäherung" nennt. Wie bei einem ersten zaghaften Kontakt zweier sich sympathisch findender Leute an einem Tisch, auf Stühlen sitzend, und mit den Füßen vorsichtig anfragen: willst Du?"
