The Homesteader Museum, though small in comparison to some state museums, was one of the most interesting we visited. There are typical homesteader cabins, workshops and equipment also displayed outside.

This rocker tub washing machine is displayed outside in front of a homesteader's cabin.

Though the rocker tub is not identified, it is most likely a Monitor sold in the early 1900s. Attached is a Lovell Pioneer wringer 22, which indicated the year it was patented in 1922 which coincides with the rocker tub washing machine. Note the water line on the rocker tub.

Overall the rocker tub washing machine and the Lovell wringer are still in good condition. The wringer is a hand crank and the washer tub is attached with an upright handle. The handle is swayed from side to side creating the rocker motion.

The rocker style washing machine was first introduced around 1888. Considered one of the greatest inventions of its time, reducing the time and efforts of the homesteader's wife on "Monday is Wash Day".
