The oldest parts of the castle origin in the 15th century. It has been changed several times during the centuries.
Today the castle houses a convention center for universities and two museums: The Bavarian Bees's Museum (Bayerisches Bienenmuseum) the museum for local history (Heimatmuseum).
The interesting castle is listed in the German Monument Registers.
