A tablet near the entrance reads:

San Gabriel Cemetery became a reality in 1919 when a number of residents held a meeting to develop a cemetery under the name of a Mexican corporation on July 20, 1933 the 2.416 acres purchased from T.B. Winston at the cost of $128.00 was named San Gabriel Cemetery. This effort was spearheaded by Jim Cortez. President Rito Aguillon Vice President; Victor Montemayor Secretary; and Apolino Ramirez Collector. The San Gabriel Cemetery Association was created through the Fort Bend County System in August 1998. We wish to recognize the founders of San Gabriel Cemetery for their foresight of the future needs of the Hispanic community in Fort Bend County, Texas and the surrounding areas.
