This is the eastern junction of one of the most historic pathways in Okanogan County, connecting the Okanogan and Methow river valleys. From here, the Chillowist Trail, also known by the indians as "The Old Horse Trail", follows the Chillowist Creek vaults into higher country passing through the Chillowist Valley into the rugged Three Devils Swithchbacks, before descending along Benson Creek to the Methow River. Indians used this trail for 3500 years or more. In the 1880's pioneers followed this route to reach the Methow. This also was used as a fur-trading and early day horse back mail route.
