DANSK:

ENGLISH:
The Danish Forsorgsmuseum is part of the Svendborg Museum. It is a social history museum that mainly tells the story of care in Denmark. The various exhibitions show how the community has treated its most vulnerable, both children and adults. The exhibits tell people about the shadow side of life, and what the welfare state and private people have done to help them.

The museum is housed in the former Svendborg Shopping City Poverty and Labor Center. The complex from 1872 was perceived as a state-of-the-art and foreseeable solution to where Svendborg's poor should be. In 1933, the place went from being a poor farm to becoming the Viebæltegård work station and in 1961 to the shelter house Viebæltegård.

Since 1974, the Svendborg Museum has been held in the buildings on Grubbemøllevej. The Forsmorgsmuseet consists of two large buildings with exhibition, church hall and chapel and three farm areas with associated barbed wire.
