The memorial was original created for Haverhill, to be erected on the Duston Estate, however support was withdrawn with litigation to follow. The monument was sold to a Woburn man, removing the inscription and sold to the Town of Barre. The moument itself is the center piece of the Common, stands 30 feet high and surrounded by an iron fence.
