This original 1936 pink granite block county marker and plaque for Fayette County is located east of La Grange on the SH 71.

In 2017 it is in a strange little road median near the monument sign for the First Baptist Church of La Grange.

Marker Text:
Formed from Colorado and Bastrop counties. Created December 14, 1837. Organized January 1, 1838. Named in honor of Marquis de LaFayette. 1757-1834. Nobleman and republican friend of Washington and of the United States. County Seat, La Grange.
