This state historic marker is located on the front of the home of Margaret Lea Houston, the wife and later widow of General Sam Houston, along the FM 390 in Independence TX.

In 2017 the marker is missing, since the home is undergoing interior and exterior renovations.

[house under renovation in 2017 and marker has been taken down temporarily. Text is from the THC Atlas] Gen. Sam Houston's widow, lived here with their 8 children, 1863-1867. House built in 1830s.
