Ericailcane wurde eingeladen, an dem Projekt der Positiv-Propaganda teilzunehmen, das die zeitgenössische und gesellschaftspolitische Kunst in städtische Räume bringt.

Hier geht es dann um die die Gentrifizierung des Westend-Viertels von München, ein Gebiet, das sich in den vergangenen Jahren durch massive Investitionen, die diesen Teil der Stadt "aufrüsten", radikal verändert hat. Man weiß, wie Gentrifizierung funktioniert, Investitionen werden getätigt und die Immobilienpreise steigen und Menschen, die ursprünglich dort lebten, fühlen sich benachteiligt.

Das Bild zeigt einen Specht, der versucht die Larven der Ameisen aus der Höhle zu stehlen. Ähnlich wie mancher Mensch lebt der Specht am liebsten alleine in einer großzügigen Höhle, die er nicht mit anderen teilen möchte. In diesem Fall jedoch hat der Specht nicht mit dem Widerstand der Anwohner, den dort beheimateten Ameisen und Glühwürmchen, gerechnet, die sich gemeinsam gegen den Angreifer und seinen Hunger nach Nahrung und „Wohnraum“ wappnen.

Im oberen Teil der Höhle wehren sie sich gegen den Angriff des Spechtes und retten ihre Larven vor ihm, während im unteren Teil weiter gearbeitet wird und sich der Nachwuchs entwickelt.

Ericailcane was until recently in Munich invited to take part of Positive-Propaganda‘s project which is dedicated to bring contemporary and socio-political art to urban spaces.

According to some sources, the work talks about the gentrification of the Westend Quarter of Munich, an area that has radically changed over the past years thanks to massive investments aimed to ‘upgrade’ this part of the city. Well, we all know how gentrification works, investments are made, housing prices go up and people who originally lived there are squeezed out.

The mural shows a woodpecker trying to steal the larvae of ants from the cave. Like most people, the woodpecker likes to live alone in a spacious cave, which he does not want to share with others. In this case, however, the woodpecker has not reckoned with the resistance of the inhabitants, the ants and fireflies living there, who are working together against the attacker and his hunger for food and "habitation".

In the upper part of the cave, they defend themselves against the attack of the woodpecker and save their larvae before him, while the lower part continues to work and the offspring develop.
