Statement of Significance
The Cairns to Kuranda railway, opened in 1891, climbs the Barron Gorge to the Atherton Tableland and is one of Australia's major engineering achievements. Stoney Creek falls bridge is the largest on the line, with metal trestles and metal truss spans totalling 88m. It is in a particularly attractive location, curving across the face of the falls and would be one of the most photographed of all Australian bridges. This bridge is of considerable age for a metal trestle/truss bridge.
