The small town of Carnoustie is situated on the North Sea coast in the county of Angus, around 8 miles east of the city of Dundee. The town is most famous for its golf courses which are situated right next to the beach at Carnoustie Bay.
The beach and all its facilities are separated from the rest of the town by the Dundee to Aberdeen railway line and the main road to it crosses the line by a level crossing at the station, before turning right into Links Parade, where the car parks and facilities are situated.
The beach is of rock and sand and faces south-east, stretching from a rocky shoreline to the north and to the golf links to the south for nearly a mile. Beyond this is an army rifle range which must not be entered when the red flags are flying.
The beach is used mainly for swimming, fishing and watersports. Along the seafront are a Leisure Centre, tennis courts, shops, cafe and promenade. There are many entrances down to the sands via steps and also a slipway for a local boat club. There are no lifeguards and dogs are allowed with restrictions. Parking is free and the Suntrans National Bicycle Route 1 passes close by.
Visit Instructions:Give the date and description of your visit, adding any additional information that you may have about the beach. Additional photos of the beach are highly encouraged. We want to hear about your experience!
