-N'esteu segur? -preguntà incrèdula la vella.
-És que dubteu de la meva paraula? -replicà el cavaller-. A més, no us costarà un ral.

[ENGLISH]

The old lady and...

...the cat

The legend tells the story of a lady who crossed everyday the river to bring water from a fountain found in the other side of the Llobregat. One day, the river overflowed and carried away the bridge, and the poor lady found herself without water
That night, the devil appeared to the old lady and proposed to her to reconstruct the bridge, with one condition: to take the body and soul of the first to cross the bridge. The old lady accepted and the devil began rapidly his word to finish the bridge before dawn.
The devil had been working all night, and at sunrise the bridge was finished. The devil, hidden behind the arch of the bridge, waited at the other side of the river for the old lady. But when the lady arrived at the bridge, she let a black cat loose that crossed the bridge before her. And thus, the devil took the soul of the cat instead the one of the old lady. Angrily, the devil kicked the bridge provoking the current arching that is characteristic of this bridge.
And this is since that day, the old lady and everyone from the village, could cross the bridge without fearing, while the devil looks, without being able to do nothing, together with the cat.

And that is the legend of The old lady and the cat that can be seen in the tablet of this fountain. However, that is not the legend that I knew, which is as follows:

...and the rooster

This legend also tells the story of a lady who crossed everyday the bridge to bring water from a fountain found in the other side of the river Llobregat. To do so, the old lady had to jump from to stone to stone, getting wet feet and more than once almost falling into the river.
One morning, there was a knight near the river:
-Why are you crossing the river this way? I will help you, and you will not fear any more crossing this river.
-And who will you do it? -asked the old lady.
-Give me one night and I will construct a bridge. When the rooster will sing the beginning of the new day, I shall have finished.
-Are you sure? -asked suspiciously the old lady.
-Do you doubt my word? -replied the knight-. It will also cost you nothing. In exchange, I will only ask for your soul. Deal?
The old lady doubted, but seeing that she had the need to cross the river everyday, she accepted. That is when the knight transformed and the devil appeared before the old lady, who began to word in the construction of the river.
The devil worked all night, and the old lady suffered since she saw that the devil was going to finish before the beginning of the next day. Approaching early morning, the bridge was almost finished and the old lady, crying, asked for help to her friend who promised to save her. The friend threw a bucket of water at the rooster, which began to sing. The devil, whom only one stone was left to finish the bridge, heard the rooster sing and furious to have lost the bet, threw the stone at the bottom of the river, where it has been told it still can be found nowadays.
A you, what of these legends think is true?
