The Garden Club of Marion added another Blue Star By-Way Memorial to the trail of Blue Stars throughout Indiana on September 13, 2016, in Matter Park, Marion. This is the third memorial dedicated during President Jodi Meyer’s Blue Star Memorial President's Program. There are four more dedications to look forward to in the coming months. The dedication started and ended with bagpipers, Marion Police Sergeant Ben Williams, and Warland Arlis playing "Amazing Grace". Colors were posted and retrieved by the Marion High School Jr. ROTC Color Guard; prayers and comments were offered, and songs were sung by the Mississinewa High School Crimson Choir. Garden club member Lila Milford presented the poem "High Flight" by John Gillespie Magee. The memorial was unveiled and wreath placed by The Garden Club of Marion's president Cheryl Bell and donor Libby Highly after which a 21 Rifle Salute by the members of the North Webster American Legion Post 253 completed the dedication. The Garden Club of Marion not only plants and maintains the Butterfly Gardens in the Gardens of Matter Park, but also they have now sponsored and set a new permanent Blue Star Memorial honoring all who have served, are serving or will serve in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
