Opened since 1981, the Municipal Museum is housed in a 1920s beach house designed by architect Leopoldo Abreu. It displays archaeological artefacts of aboriginal people of the region and also antique furniture, documents, maps, photographs, and objects related to the short history of the town.

The beautiful architecture of this 2-storey wooden building is reason enough for a visit. It was one of the first frame houses built on the Hicacos Peninsula. The design, with its elegant wrap-around porches, is typical of beach houses from that period.

When we were there in February 2017 the museum was closed for renovations.
