Pulled by horsepower or tractor, oats, barley, soybeans, wheat, and other types of seed would be placed in the alimumn box or “hopper,” and then as the drill was pulled and the teeth created furrows, the seed would be dropped down the tubes in the teeth into place in the fields. The spacing of the teeth designated the spacing of the furrows, which varied based on the type of seed the farmer planted.
