This unique monument, located on a peninsula, honors local residents who lost their lives while serving in the Armed Forces.

The City of Sugar Land unveiled the first of the four memorials during the 2010 Memorial Day ceremony - flags representing each branch of service. A second project, facilitated by the Legacy Foundation, was completed in 2013 and features a stunning walk-through obelisk honoring the branches of the military. The donation of the design and construction of this feature was made possible by the Tilt-Up Concrete Association and more than 10 companies who donated their time, talent and services to the memorial project, including Powers Brown Architecture; E.E. Reed Construction, L.P.; Pinnacle Structural Engineers; TAS Commercial Concrete; Big 4 Erectors, L.P.; CEMEX; CMC Construction Services; CMC Rebar; WhiteCap Construction Supply; Nox-Crete Products Group; Meadow Burke; General Technologies; Ward Getz Associates; Gorrondona & Associates; Performance Electric; Trinity Expanded Shale & Clay; Houston Sawing and Drilling, and Nawkaw Corporation. The final value of their donations totaled over $300,000 and a ribbon cutting was held on September 30, 2013.

The exterior of the oblisk has the four branches of the armed forces and the year they were established, one on each side, and a medallion of each branches seal set in the ground. The interior has the names and date of local fallen service members, by branch - to include the Coast Guard. (Which has no names)

The oblisk is constructed with open joints in the walls and the top is open allowing sunlight to fill the interior.
Type of Memorial: Multi-War Memorial

Wars mentioned (Multi-war only):
Although no specific conflicts are listed, I found information that shows that one Veteran was in the Korean Conflict and the others were involved in different missions in the Gulf War and Afganistan. Several died in non-combat incidents.

In Honor Of: Residents of Sugar Land who gave the ultimate sacrafice while serving
