The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, and one of their plaques at the front door notes that the home was built in 1927. There is also a generic plaque, referring to the house as "Heritage House" and indicating "Est. 1927".

The President's House is located along Stonewall Street on the A & M campus, between Bois D'Arc and Campbell Streets, but it faces into the campus, not towards the street. There is ample parking in lots 11 and 12, in front of the house, which is close to the corner of Campbell and Stonewall Streets. The home is also a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, and a 1997 historical marker at the front door provides some background:

Designed by Greenville architects George Lindsey and Roy Kilmer in 1927, the President's House was built on land purchased from Daniel and Annie Bachman. The house exhibits an understated adaptation of Georgian Revival style elements in its dark red brick and white trim with simple Classical details. After the construction of a new president's house in 1968, the house served as offices. In 1995, the home was renamed "Heritage House" and restored to its 1930s appearance for use as a heritage center.

As of 2017, university president, Dr. Ray Keck, and his wife live here as the home continues its function as a welcome center for new students.
