The Aspiration monument was dedicated to the women of the Cayman Islands as part of the 2009 Heroes Day observances, which focussed on the contribution of women to the development and history of the Cayman Islands. Next to the Aspiration monument stands a wall inscribed with the names of all but eight of the 358 women who petitioned for the right to vote, which was finally gained in 1957. The names of the eight missing women were lost when the document was damaged in a fire at Government House in 1972.

Descendants and relations of the women’s whose names are on the walls were invited to lay flowers immediately after the Heroes Day ceremony and scores of Caymanians ran their fingers over the wall, trying to find the names of mothers, grandmothers, aunts and sisters.

The monument was made in just five months at the American Bronze Foundry in Sanford, Florida. It depicts two women, one young and one older, climbing up stairs as a tribute to the work and struggles of Caymanian women. The young woman is holding the world in her palm and the oldest a paper that could be the signed petition. On the sides of the stairway are written the words Faith, Perseverance, Vision, Strength, Determination, Equality.

The plaque reads:

"Aspiration "Only as high as I reach can I grow, / only as far as I seek can I go / only as deep as I look can I see, / only as much as I dream can I be." Karen Ravn
