"THE HIGH CHISOS

Looking Southwest (to your right)

Some plants and animals that live here are common in Mexico but are not found in the US outside of the Chisos Mountains. For example, the only known breeding population of Colima Warbler in the US is found in the Chisos. During the summer they are commonly seen in Boot Canyon and Laguna Meadow.

1 Pinnacles Peak
spires eroded volcanic rhyolite punctuate this trail to the high country. Beyond the pass, the trail continues to Boot Canyon and the South Rim.

In the high canyons, leaves of the bigtooth maple turn bright yellow and red in early November.

2 Emory Peak
At 7328 feet, this is the highest point in the park. The trail leading to the top rises 2400 feet over a distance of 4.5 miles."
