REMOVED This dedicated bench has been disassembled and moved into storage. The Lonnie B. Griffin dedicated bench overlooks the Veterans Tribute Garden, in front of the Garland Senior Activity Center at 600 W. Avenue A.

Lonnie B. Griffin is interred in Garden of Prayer in Memoryland Memorial Park Cemetery in Greenville, Texas.

Lonnie B. Griffin

GRIFFIN, LONNIE B., age 57, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2003. The youngest of 7 children born July 16, 1945 in Estelline,TX to the late Bytha Strickland Griffin and Ivy Benjamin Griffin. He graduated Greenville High in 63, married Karen Kay (Teller) on February 12, 1966, then enlisted in the US Air Force serving as a Tech Instructor at Keesler A.F.B., Biloxi, MS...was honorably discharged in '70. He served/retired after 20 yrs w/the TX Air Nat 'l Guard in Garland, Lonnie's favorite quote - "Hate war, but love the American Warrior!". He moved to Garland in '71 and worked/retired from GTE in '99 with over 20 yrs . He continued his "telephone" career joining SW Bell later that year realizing retirement wasn't for him. Speaking of family/friends, he often said, "I'm a very rich man!" He enjoyed poker, dominoes and games of Stratego w/Landon, which they've played for over 25 yrs. Lonnie was a devoted, loving husband and father; brother, uncle and cousin.

In recognition for service to his country and the state of Texas, his funeral will be with military honors.

Veterans Tribute Garden

Located on the grounds of the Senior Activity Center, the Veterans Tribute Garden is an enduring place of respect that pays tribute to the commitment and patriotism of past, present, and future members of the armed forces.

The Veterans Tribute Garden was dedicated in November 2005 and funded by the City of Garland and donations. The garden area consists of a brick walk, “Patriot’s Path”, comprised of engraved bricks, military branch monuments, seating areas for rest and contemplation, and beautiful landscaping.
