The plaque says, "Certain rare moments charge the course of history. Yet within a mere eleven years two such moments, the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the signing of the Constitution of the United States, occurred in Independence Hall, just a few steps from where you are standing. The sculpture you see before you commemorated the courage of those who altered their lives, and ours, by affixing their names to these documents."
Taken from the Smithsonian, "Sculpture, front proper right, lower edge:) Evangelos Frudakis Sc. (copyright symbol) 1980 (Foundry mark appears on rear, lower left edge followed by:) (copyright symbol)/81 (Base, front:) THE SIGNER (Base, left side:) Evangelos Frudakis 1982 signed Founder's mark appears. Male figure dressed colonial attire consisting of a long jacket, buttoned vest, shirt with ruffled cuffs, knee britches, stocking, and shoes with buckles. His long hair is pulled back and tied at the back of his head. He stands with legs spread, back arched, and head raised and turned to his proper left as he looks up at his raised proper left hand which grips a scroll. In his raised proper right hand, he holds a quill pen. Sculpture rests on a square base on top of a low flat base."
