[FR] Siège d'une châtellenie mentionnée dès 1077 et érigée en baronnie au XVe siècle, le donjon roman du château de Morthemer a fait l'objet d'une restauration abusive sur l'élévation.
Ces travaux ont été confiés à partir de 1865 par le baron Soubeyran, riche financier et député, à Boeswillwald, disciple de Viollet-le-Duc.
Du Xe siècle jusqu'à la Révolution, trois grandes familles vont posséder le domaine, par le jeu des héritages.
Depuis 936, les Morthemer sont cités comme signataires, donateurs ou souscripteurs, dans de nombreuses chartes d'Abbayes. Leur signature apparaît toujours après celle des Vicomtes.
Au XIIIe siècle, le château est transmis à la famille Sénéchal. Ensuite il revient en 1347 à la famille Taveau par Jean Taveau, Conseiller du Duc de Berry. Cette famille resta propriétaire du domaine plus de trois siècles.
En 1993, le château a été vendu à un descendant de la branche cadette des Taveau, Antoine Duchalard de Taveau, toujours propriétaire à ce jour.
Le château se compose de deux parties: le donjon, qui était à l'origine une tour carrée de cinq étages, et un bâtiment rectangulaire appelé petit château qui jouxte la nef de l'église Notre Dame depuis le XVIIe siècle.
Au nord, le site est clos par un corps de bâtiment organisé de part et d'autre d'un pavillon d'entrée ouvrant sur le parc du château.
Le Château est une propriété privée, et ne se visite pas.

In 1993, the castle was sold to a descendant of the younger branch of the Taveau, Antoine Duchalard de Taveau, still owner to this day.
The castle consists of two parts: the keep, which was originally a five-storey square tower, and a rectangular building called a small castle that adjoins the nave of Notre Dame church since the 17th century.
To the north, the site is closed by a body of building organized on both sides of an entrance pavilion opening on the park of the castle.
The Castle is a private property, and can not be visited.
