The Castle Hermannstein is located on the so-called "Schwarzenberg" above the present district Hermannstein in Wetzlar.

The upper part of the castle was built towards the end of the 14th century to protect a trading road and the Hessian border above the Lahn valley. The lower part was built in the 15th century.

In later centuries parts of the castle fell into ruins. It is now privately owned.
