The Great River Road, a National Scenic Byway which runs near the Mississippi River from Minnesota to Louisiana, uses already-existing roads to create a continuous route.

The Great River Road in Minnesota has both a National Route and (on the other side of the Mississippi River) a State Route. A sign in Crow Wing State Park marks the last stretch of road to be approved as part of the National Route.

A state park vehicle permit is required. Good at any Minnesota state park, vehicle permits cost $5 per day or $25 for a year.
