In the Harrietstown village of Saranac Lake is the Harrietstown Town Hall, which has a clock tower rising well above the building.

The town hall is located at the corner of Main Street and New York Route 86. The building is a brick structure two-stories tall, with the clock tower rising another two stories. The tower is cylindrical, with openings in the center for the bell tower. There are four clock faces, each with Roman numerals on the face. Above the clock are a set of red, yellow, and green lights arranged to look like a traffic light.

I couldn't find much about the clock itself. It is possibly the same clock was in the previous town hall, built in 1888. However, the town hall burned down in a spectacular fire in 1926. This, the replacement - and fireproof - town hall, was built in 1928.

There has been inquiries about the lights above the clock tower. They were discovered/uncovered during repair work. One story [apparently made up for the article] that the lights could have been used in the movie 'Back to the Future'. Another story stated that it was the traffic light for the nearby intersection (not true). The real story apparently is that the police station was in the basement of the building. If the phone at the police station was rung, then the red light would light up, so that the policeman on duty could either get to the station or answer from one of the call boxes in the village.
