The 8th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry monument is located on the south side of the Sunken Road now known as Bloody Lane at the Antietam National Battlefield, Sharpsburg, MD.

A 10' high granite monument, dedicated in 1903, honors the soldiers of the 8th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry who fought and died during the Civil War at the battle of Antietam, MD which took place on September 17, 1862. On the front of the monument is a bas-relief image of a wreath surrounded by a pair of flags and stars. Above in raise capital letters in inscribed OHIO. Two vertical rifles frame the central dado which is inscribed in raised capital letters:

1ST BRIGADE GEN. NATHAN KIMBALL
3RD DIVISION GEN. W. H. FRENCH
2ND CORPS, GEN. EDWIN V. SUMNER
ARMY OF THE POTOMAC

At the base of the monument is the inscription:

ON THIS FIELD OHIO'S SONS SACRIFICED
LIFE AND HEALTH FOR ONE COUNTRY AND ONE FLAG.

According the the NPS website:

"September 17, 1862 forded Antietam Creek waist deep, formed line of battle South of the Roulette buildings, in orchard, took crest of hill at the point of the bayonet; held position four hours; supplies exhausted; ammunition and muskets from dead and wounded; charged "Bloody Lane" captured about 300 prisoners; number engaged 341; Losses in killed and wounded 162."
