"Haslam Park is a Victorian influenced town park with many of the original features still in place.

It has been awarded a Green Flag every year since 2006. The Green Flag Award is given to a park in recognition of the high standards of maintenance, community involvement and its overall management." link

"Haslam Park Sensory Garden is the first to be created in a Preston Park and was designed and constructed by the Friends. Their vision was to provide a place where everyone could experience the smell, sight, sound and feel of the plants. The raised beds are of varying heights to be reached by everyone and are filled with plants selected for their sensory properties.. The work in 2008 took 1000 hours of voluntary labour and involved two local junior schools and other community youth groups. The garden was entered into the Britain in Bloom 2010 competition and received a certificate of Outstanding level 5. The Friends are undertaking ongoing maintenance of the site and it has become a well used feature on this Green Flag park. A haven of tranquillity has been created between hornbeam and beech hedging with new seating provided." link

There is an information board at the entrance to the garden with the following information.
The garden was designed as a place to experience the smell, sight, sound and feel of plants.

The beds of varying heights can be reached by everyone and are filled with plants selected for their sensory properties.

You will find aromatic herbs such as Lavender and Thyme. There are waving grasses, rustling bamboo, sensually soft furry plants and some with glossy leaves and prickles.

Herbaceous perennials and spring bulbs give a colourful show throughout the year.

Ornamental trees provide added interest, with fragrant blossom, seasonal colour and fruits as well as attractive bark.
