There have been a series of fires in Newfield. The Methodist Church had a fire in 1946 started by a furnace left warm for some services that were to be held later that day. The inside of the church was chestnut and burned quickly. The cost to rebuild was 25,000 dollars. Since Newfield has had many fires, several old buildings have been lost. Several do remain though, toward the center of town. This building looks newer than most in town. The older church was also brick. Some of the older churches have been reused for business or residences. This is the most prominent church left in the center of Newfield.
