Die Römerwarte ist eine Befestigungsanlage die im dritten Jahrhundert gebaut wurde. Notwendig wurde sie nachdem der Limes gefallen ist und Germanische Krieger in das Gebiet des römischen Reiches zogen. Umgeben war die Anlage von einer Mauer, hinter die sich die Bevölkerung bei Überfällen der Germanen zurückziehen konnten. Direkt auf dem Katzenberg befand sich ein Beobachtungs- und Signalturm. Von diesem Turm aus konnte die Umgebung beobachtet werden. Durch Lage des Turms war auch die Weitergabe von Signalen an andere Befestigungsanlagen möglich.
[DE:] Die Anlage wurde 1900 entdeckt und zwischen 1907 und 1932 ausgegraben. Von dem Signalturm ist heute noch das Fundament und die darin enthaltene Fußbodenheizung erhalten. Über diesem Fundament wurde nach 1997 eine Schutzhütte gebaut, die im Stil dem ursprünglichen Turm nachempfunden wurde. Dieser Teil der Anlage bietet neben den Blick auf die Ausgrabungsstelle auch einen hervorragenden Rundumblick über die Eifel. Unterhalb dieses Turmes befindet eine Rekonstruktion der Befestigungsmauer. Ein Pfad mit Informationstafeln gibt Hinweise über Lebensweise der Bewohner des Umfeldes der Burg, wie auch auf spezielle Bauweisen der Gebäude.
Geparkt werden kann etwa 300m entfernt vom Katzenberg bei N 50°19.327 E 007° 14.939.

[EN:] The Römerwarte is a fortress built in the third century. It was necessary after the Limes had fallen and Germanic warriors moved into the territory of the Roman Empire. The area was surrounded by a wall, behind which the population could retreat when the Germans invaded. Directly on the Katzenberg threre was an observation and signal tower. The surrounding area could be observed from this tower. Due to the location of the tower, the transmission of signals to other miitary installations was also possible.
The fortress was discovered in 1900 and excavated between 1907 and 1932. The foundation and its floor heating is still preserved. Over this foundation a shelter was built in 1997, which was inspired by the style of the original tower. This part of the complex offers, besides the view of the excavation site, an excellent 360° schenic-view over the Eifel. Below of the tower is a reconstruction of the fortification wall. A path with information panels provides information about the way of life of the inhabitants of the surroundings of the castle, as well as on specific construction methods of the buildings.
A parking can be found at N 50 ° 19.327 E 007 ° 14.939. To the fortress is a short walk of about 300m.
