Church of the Icon of the Kazan Mother of God was opened in Nizhny Novgorod
The history of the revival of the Kazan church is connected with the approval of the new holiday - National Unity Day, celebrated on November 4th. The temple was founded November 3, 2005 the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II during his visit to Nizhny Novgorod to participate in the celebrations on the occasion of the Kazan Mother of God and the Day of National Unity. The consecration ceremony was the foundation stone and the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev.
After His Holiness Patriarch recalled that in the past torn down shrines revived. "I am glad that the celebration of a new national holiday - National Unity Day - starts at the Nizhny Novgorod region, where many centuries ago, the great citizens of Minin and Pozharsky urged the people to liberate Moscow. We need to honor and remember the main sons of our Motherland. We must do everything to preserve the unity of the Russian people. It is our duty - to remember the great sons of Russia, which is the love for their country, their people, "- he added.
