[FR] Il y a 120 ans naissait le premier hôpital de Calais installé Quai du Commerce. C’est en effet le 26 janvier 1887 que s’achèvent les travaux débutés 4 ans plus tôt. Parallèlement au progrès de la médecine, époque de début de la médecine moderne, Calais se dote donc d’un hôpital.

Il faudra alors attendre 1945 pour voir évoluer de façon significative l’hôpital et ses infrastructures. Les ordonnances de 1945 créant la Sécurité Sociale sont ainsi un tournant décisif en permettant de financer 30 % des dépenses. La rénovation hospitalière est alors enclenchée et commence une profonde transformation de toute l’organisation médicale, hospitalière et administrative. Le patient est au cœur du système de soins, un patient que l’hôpital a pour devoir de satisfaire.

Malgré la création d’un service de maternité en 1950 et l’ouverture de nouveaux services dans les années 1960, les infrastructures demeurent démodées : la construction d’un nouvel hôpital en 1975 permettent d’offrir à la population calaisienne un établissement moderne, auquel s’ajoutera un nouveau plateau technique en 1992. C’est à cette époque également que sort de terre une nouvelle maison de retraite à Coubertin. C’est l’ère de la modernisation.

Aujourd’hui encore, l’hôpital ne cesse d’évoluer afin d’offrir à la population du Calaisis un service public de qualité malgré le vieillissement inévitable des bâtiments et le manque de place. Depuis les années 1990, de nombreux services ont vu le jour.

En 2007, c’est pas moins de trois nouvelles activités qui ont été ouvertes au public : consultations avancées de chirurgie infantile, Unité de Surveillance Continue, Unité de chirurgie ambulatoire. D’autres services se sont vus attribuer un nouvel espace plus performant et plus accueillant : c’est le cas des nouveaux locaux pour les consultations de gynécologie-obstétrique ou du nouveau plateau technique pour la réadaptation cardiaque et pour la réhabilitation respiratoire. Sans oublier l’ouverture du nouvel EHPAD La Roselière sur le site du Virval, site qui verra, à l’horizon 2012, la construction d’un nouvel hôpital.

Une capacité totale d’accueil de 947 lits et places dont 587 pour le Nouvel Hôpital : 325 lits d’hospitalisation complète et 49 places destinées à l’accueil de jour en Médecine Chirurgie Obstétrique, 80 lits et 20 places en Psychiatrie, 90 lits de Soins de Suite et Réadaptation Adultes et 12 SSR Pédiatrique, 360 lits d’hébergement dont 30 lits Long séjour et 20 lits Foyer de vie.

42 317 entrées en 2013, 282 225 journées d’hospitalisation dont 126 966 d’hébergement en EHPAD, 2253 naissances, 6027 interventions chirurgicales, 107 901 consultations externes Médecine Chirurgie Obstétrique.
