While they're not necessarily uncommon in some parts of Arizona, it's not unusual to see a cattle crossing sign, especially as cattle are often pretty good about getting to where they shouldn't be. Definitely be on the lookout for a wanderer in the highway if you see one of these signs, or even if you see cattle congregating close to the fences that confine them. Along most of this stretch of highway between Mexican Water and Bluff, there are no fences to contain the cattle, which can make things interesting if you're not paying attention. Odds are good that you'll see at least one cow, thinking about walking out on the highway as you drive by.
