EN: This simple cross made of metal bars is located at a small pond near a hiking trail at Simplon Pass. The Simplon Panoramic Trail leads from the hospice to the village Simplon, east of the pass road and high above it. This stage takes about four and a half hours, the pond and the cross are reached after around one hour.
The cross is about two meters high and consists of iron standard pipe elements. It is neither dated nor labeled. It is also not a typical summit cross, because it is located in a dip and is seen only at close distance.
DE: Dieses einfache Kreuz aus Metallstangen befindet sich bei einem kleinen Teich in der Nähe eines Wanderwegs beim Simplonpass. Der Simplonparonamaweg führt östlich der Passstrasse und hoch über ihr vom Hospiz zum Dorf Simplon. Diese Etappe dauert rund viereinhalb Stunden, der Teich und das Kreuz sind nach etwa einer Stunde erreicht.
Das Kreuz ist rund zwei Meter hoch und besteht aus eisernen Standardrohrelementen. Es ist weder datiert noch sonst beschriftet. Es ist auch kein typisches Gipfelkreuz, da es sich in einer Senke befindet und erst aus der Nähe gesehen wird.
