On May 13, 1906, the First Baptist Church of Eureka was established at a meeting of local faithful. Originally Deweyville, the town changed its name to Eureka in 1903 with the arrival of a post office, followed shortly by the arrival of the Great Northern Railroad, the first train rolling into town on October 2nd, 1904. Plans were made for Eureka's first Baptist church on June 28, 1906, with construction following forthwith. The church was enlarged in 1913.
In March of 1971 the decision was made to go ahead with plans for a new church. With the donation of thousands of hours of labor, thousands of dollars worth of materials and a coffer of $30,000, construction was underway by about 1974 and the first service in this church was held during Easter of 1975.
Architecturally pretty subdued, one outstanding aspect of the church is the entrance doors. Double wood doors, they have been expertly carved, depicting a pastoral scene of a man drinking from a stream while another rests while tending his flock of sheep. A sunburst rains down on the scene from the top centre.
