The text on the marker reads:

Gurnet Fortifications

In 1776 an earthwork fort was erected at the Gurnet for the protection of Plymouth Harbor. It mounted six cannons and was manned by militiamen from Plymouth, Kingston, Duxbury and nearby towns. The first lighthouse built in 1768 stood alongside this fort. While in search of American Privateers, H.M.S Niger observed the fortifications and shots were exchanged during which one of the lighthouse beacons was destroyed.

When logging a Massachusetts Historic Marker, we ask that you not only describe your visit, but to upload a picture from it. But a photo of you standing next to the marker or a photograph the subject of the marker - those are examples of possible photographs to upload.
