Beautiful fountain on the south bank of the Danube River in Tulln depicts one of the stories from the Song of the Nibelungs - i.e. a marriage proposal of the king Attila the Hun and the princess Kremhild (Gudrun).

According to the Nibelungenlied (the Song of the Nibelungs), it was in Tulln that Attila the Hun saw Kriemhild (the Nibelungenlied's name for Gudrun) and proposed to her. A fountain, the Nibelungen-Brunnen ("the Nibelungen Fountain") was dedicated to this event in 2005. The fountain of the Monument to the Nibelungs is a sight to behold on summer nights. An integrated and esthetic light-water-stone composition of the fountain sculptor Hans Muhr lends the artwork even more depth: the fountains of water rise out of an open book – Lay of the Nibelung. The spouts alternately become stronger on each side until the streams of water finally touch and mix - this feature also corresponds to the symbolism of two worlds, East and West, approaching each other in Tulln.
