James M. Oldfield is buried under an impressive WoW tombstone in the southwest corner of Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

His tombstone reads as follows:

"JAMES M. OLDFIELD
Born
July 16, 1864
Died
Nov 7, 1917

Gone but not forgotten"

We have been able to find some fragmentary information on James, who is not listed in Find-A-Grave with the rest of his family.

In the 1910 US census, we found James M. Oldfield, age 47, born Jul 1864 in KY, farming near Canton TX with wife Hattie, who he married 1884, and their 6 children.

Working backwards, we found them in the 1900 US census on Ancestry: James M. Oldfield, age 37, born Jul 1864 in TX, living in Canton TX with wife Hattie, age 34, who was born in TX and married 1884. They had 5 children, all born in TX.

In 1880, we found Jim Oldfield age 15, living with his parents Thomas (b TN) and Sarah Oldfield (b TN) on a farm in Van Zandt County. Jim was working as a farm laborer. He had 5 siblings, all of whom were also born in Texas.

This family was also farming in Van Zandt county in the 1870 census, with James being 5 years old.

We were not able to find a death certificate.
