A coat of arms with three boxwood trees has been known since the time of 1580. But after 1653 Olten was deprived of the right to use the coat of arms by Solothurn; this was part of the punishment for the participation of Olten in the Peasants' War. In the Helvetic Republic, the city of Olten regained the seal right. The three fir trees have been used since the 19th century.

I found this flag at a historic house in the city center along with the flag of Switzerland, Solothurn and another one that I could not identify, perhaps the emblem of a guild.

Ein Wappen mit drei Buchsbäumen ist seit der Zeit um 1580 bekannt. Nach 1653 wurde Olten aber von Solothurn das Recht dieses Wappen zu verwenden entzogen; diese war ein Teil der Bestrafung für die Teilnahme von Olten am Bauernkrieg. In der Helvetik erhielt die Stadt Olten das Siegelrecht zurück. Die drei Tannen werden seit dem 19. Jahrhundert verwendet.

Ich fand diese Flagge an einem historischen Haus im Stadtzentrum zusammen mit der Flagge der Schweiz, des Kantons Solothurn und einer weiteren, die ich nicht indentifizieren konnte, möglicherweise das Emblem einer Zunft.
