Their website says:

In the Spring of 1972, Los Lupes opened its doors on the corner of Cole & Riverfront (formerly Industrial) bringing traditional Mexican Food to Dallas. Authentic Mexican food is a lost concept held by few restaurants today because it is so difficult to prepare. The recipes used today have been passed down from our ancestors through three generations. In all three generations, there was a child named "Lupe". Hence, the "Los Lupes®" (many Lupes). For over 40 years, Los Lupes® has remained family owned and operated.

--

Besides the original, they have four other locations, in Addison, Carrollton, Grand Prairie, and Irving (inside the Irving Mall). There are two other Los Lupes, in Duncanville and Cedar Hill, and while they have identical history and a very similar menu, they are not part of the family.

In any event, they aren't kidding about quality Mexican food. Oh, they do wonderful Tex-Mex, to be sure, but if you're looking for the real deal, you can find cabrito, lengua, mole, and barbacoa, as well as a few dishes with nopales cactus. They also do menudo. There are the common parrilla items, as well as seafood and the usual Tex-Mex fare. A few vegetarian items are available, and they cater to the gringos, with burgers, chicken, ribs, steaks, baked potatoes, and barbecue. They have a few exotic options like venison and wild boar, and it will take you a long time to get through everything on this menu.

They also have lunch specials and a children's menu, and if you have room after all that, they have a few desserts beyond the usual flan or sopapillas: The Pineapple Ice Pie is killer! The typical soft drinks are available, as well as coffee, tea, milk, juice, milk shakes, root beer floats, bottled water, Red Bull, and even bottled soft drinks from Mexico (Coca Cola and Jarritos). They have a small beer and wine menu, as well as margaritas and sangría.

Very prominent in the window up front is their advertising that they serve breakfast all day. Take your choice of Mexican or American breakfasts, and since they do takeout, this is a good place to order up a few breakfast tacos to take to work when you're running late. To steal from Whataburger, you're not the guy who's running late, you're the guy who brought breakfast!
