The Confederates who died at Shiloh remain on the field of battle in several large mass graves and many smaller individual plots. As many as eleven or twelve mass graves exist at Shiloh, but the park commission could only locate five such burial trenches. Those five mass burial trenches are now marked, but all of the Confederate buried in these trenches remain unknown, having been buried by an enemy who did not know their identity. This monument is located at Confederate Burial Trench #3.
