Metallurgy is 1. the technique or science of working or heating metals so as to give them certain desired shapes or properties. 2. the technique or science of making and compounding alloys. 3. the technique or science of separating metals from their ores. The task of forging is a true lesson in the science of metallurgy. Where once SILEX was used, to present day where Iron and Steel are forged. I was lucky enough to come on a private tour when setting up these caches and once again when promoting the idea of geocaches to the board. In between meeting with the directors and the members at their annual meeting, I got a chance to hang out here and meet several blacksmiths as they were forging various metal.<

Take a look at the brick forge, lineshaft, stationary engine and many tools of the trade used to manufacture, fabricate and maintain agricultural equipment. On the weekends the blacksmiths will be here working. On the weekdays, the fire may be on but you can still walk up to the front barrier and look inside.
