Horseshoes, a spur with a fancy spur strap, and a brand on the headstone of Richard Charles Sutton are a nod to his passion for horseback riding.

A personalized memorial from his daughter, Zoe, is behind the headstone, which has a "< S >" brand over the family name, "Sutton". The headstone is oval, of red granite with a vase, and this inscription:

Zoe's Daddy
Sutton
Richard Charles

May 4. 1964
July 24, 2010
Always in our Hearts

The spur and strap both feature the same brand, and it flanks a photo medallion of Mr. Sutton and Zoe, along with two horseshoes. While there does not appear to be a registered brand like this in Cooke County, it is possible that he may have been a rancher as well. His obituary at Findagrave definitely references riding as one of his interests, along with fishing with his daughter.
