This life-size sculpture depicts a large fish, blue on top with a silvery white underside and a characteristic long bill with two small fish at the base.
Since 1959 the annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament (HIBT) is held at the Kailua pier near the King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Resort.
In 1993 the HIBT has been overshadowed by HIBT Pro-Am preliminary event when Balboa Angling Club's, Ray Hawkes caught a 1,166 pound blue marlin on 50 pound class line to set new IGFA record. (See the plaque)
