Just over the rise of the Mooraback Camping area, in the Werrikimbe National Park (below the Service Hut), is the start of the Platypus Pools Walk. Keep your eyes open for kangaroos as well.

This information sign, with a map of the Platypus Pools Walk, just past the Mooraback Field Study Centre, is overlooking the Bishops Swamp.
'Behind you', to the south, is the start of the walk, and it then goes some 1.5 km down to the Platypus Pools. A hundred metres of retracing your steps from the Pools brings you back to a loop walk, which would take you about a further 2 to 3 hours, coming back by the Mooraback Management Trail to the east.
It is essential that you are well prepared for your walk, with enough water, as the streams are not suitable to drink without boiling. Probably NO telephone reception, despite being at about 1,000 m elevation!
There is at least 20 km of dirt road from the Oxley Highway (on top of 30 km bitumen), before getting to the Mooraback Rest Area, where free camping is allowed. I would rate the walk (even to the sign) as Terrain 2.
