Havana, with a 2000 population of 3577, is the county seat of Mason County, Illinois. Surveyed in 1827 and founded in 1848, it is near the 800-year old native american burial mounds known as Dixon Mounds and site of the second largest Indian mound in the midwest, the 2000 year old Rockwell Mound.
