In January 2017 Judy Garland's remains were moved and re-interred at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery In Hollywood California.Judy Garland was best known for her role as Dorothy Gale in the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz.”

Judy Garland was born Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Her first public performance was at the age of two when she sang “Jingle Bells.” Judy had two sisters, Jimmie and Susie and the three began performing as “The Gumm Sisters.” The family moved to California when Judy was four and the sisters began performing in local theaters and appearing in short films. In 1934, the sisters changed their name to “The Garland Sisters,” while performing at the Chicago World’s Fair, and Frances Gumm became Judy Garland. Judy went on to star with Mickey Rooney several of the very popular “Andy Hardy Films.” In 1939, Judy appeared as Dorothy Gale, in “The Wizard of Oz.” This roll would be her most well-known and endearing role. While her career would span 5-decades and she would always be remembered as the young girl who was swept away over the rainbow to a mythical place called Oz. Judy Garland went on to star on the Broadway Stage, appear in a number of feature films and was a talented singer and dancer. Success took its toll on Judy who reportedly turned to drugs to meet the demands of her career. On June 22, 1969, while performing in London Judy Garland died of an accidental drug overdose. Her body was returned to the United States and she is resting the Ferncliff Mausoleum at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York

The coordinates for this waymark were taken at the main entrance to the Ferncliff Mausoleum. Judy Garland's crypt is located in Unit 9, Alcove HH, Crypt 31 of the Ferncliff Mausoleum. This is a very large mausoleum and even with a map I had to have help in locating crypt.

Judy Garland was born Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She began entertaining at a very early age, for performing a “Baby Gumm” at the age of two where she sang “Jingle Bells.” She began performing with her two sisters Jimmie and Susie. The act was known as “The Gumm Sisters” who became a popular local act. In 1926, when Frances was 4-years old the family moved to where Frances and her sisters continued to perform appearing in a few short films. In 1934 the Gumm Sisters became “The Garland Sisters, “and Frances became Judy Garland, at the 1934 World’s Fair in Chicago. One of Judy’s first film roles was in 1936 when she featured in “Pigskin Parade.” Judy went on to cos-star with her friend Mickey Rooney in the 1938 film “Love Finds Andy Hardy.” The Andy Hardy films became very popular and Mickey and Judy starred together in several more “Andy Hardy” films. It was in 1939 that Judy Garland would be cast in her most endearing role as Dorothy Gale in “The Wizard of Oz.” Cast as a young girl from Kansas, who is whisk off to the mythical place called Oz, where she meets such characters as The Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man and a Scare Crow who accompany Dorothy on her trek down the Yellow Brick Road to meet the only person who can return her to her home “Over the Rainbow.” Along the way, Dorothy and her companions are confronted by challenges from the “Wicked Witch of the West.” Eventually, Dorothy’s trip to Oz is only a dream and when she awakens she proclaims, “There’s no place like home.” The success of “The Wizard of Oz,” made the already popular Judy, even more popular which lead to roles in such highly successful musicals as “Strike up the Band,” “Babes of Broadway,” and “For Me and My Gal.” In 1944 Garland appeared in another highly successful film, “Meet Me in St. Louis.” The stress of success took a toll on Judy and in 1950 MGM ended their association with the actress. Judy, turned to Broadway where she starred in her own show at the Palace Theater. She earned a special Tony Award for her work on Broadway and her contributions to vaudeville. In 1954, Garland was nominated for an Academy Award her rendition of “The Man that Got Away,” in the film, “A Star is Born.” During the 1960’s, Judy concentrated on her singing and won town Grammy Awards for Best Solo and Album of the Year for “Judy at Carnegie Hall.” In the late 1960’s, Judy when to London where she performed at the Talk of the Town Nightclub.” It was while in London that Judy Garland died of an accidental drug overdose on June 22, 1969. She is resting in the Ferncliff Mausoleum at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York
