This impressive building of a mixture of stone and brick has a date of 1906 over one of the entrances. Below the date is two carved stone cartouches. One has the coat of arms of the United Kingdom whilst the other has the coat of arms of Blackburn.
These days the pub is a J D Wetherspoon pub. This chain of pubs usually uses pub names with a historical reference to the building or area. In this case it is called The Postal Order, an old method of payment issued by post offices. They were the equivalent of cheques and were used by people who did not have their own bank account with a cheque book.
