Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação - [Cuba, Beja, Portugal]

Imóvel de grande interesse artístico dos séculos XVI e XVII.

Aqui encontramos o mais antigo exemplar de pintura mural denominada de “frescos” que chegou até aos nossos dias no concelho de Cuba e também do Baixo Alentejo, pertencendo aos finais do séc. XVI.

Presume-se que a fundação da Igreja tenha sido na Idade Média, no entanto, esta sofreu grandes alterações através dos séculos e é hoje um belo exemplar gótico-manuelino alentejano de carácter popular e rural.

Situa-se à saída de Vila Ruiva na estrada de Alvito e é um belo edifício com uma fachada de dois andares, todo pintado de branco.

É um edifico de uma só nave, planta rectangular.

O conjunto de pintura a fresco e a têmpora da Igreja Matriz de Vila Ruiva são datáveis de várias épocas distintas, séc. XVI ao séc. XIX.

Esta autêntica catedral do fresco deve a sua construção aos fidalgos Pereiras de Melo, Condes de Olivença e Tentúgal.
